EPUB Viewer / Editor

Read an EPUB and lightly edit it right in your browser — Drop in an .epub file and it is rendered page-by-page with its table of contents. Edit chapter source (XHTML) or book metadata (title, author, publisher, language …), then repackage everything into a fresh EPUB. Everything runs locally — no upload, no server, no cloud.
Security note: an EPUB may contain scripts. The preview runs in an isolated sandboxed frame and embedded scripts are stripped from the rendered pages.

EPUB — a small website zipped into a book

An EPUB is a ZIP archive of XHTML chapters, CSS and images, held together by an OPF package document (metadata + manifest + spine). It is the open e-book standard used essentially everywhere except Kindle-native devices. Unlike PDF, an EPUB has no fixed pages — the text reflows to whatever screen and font size the reader chooses.

EPUB 3 is the current version (HTML5 chapters, nav-based table of contents); EPUB 2 books still read fine everywhere (they carry an NCX TOC instead). To read without editing use the E-Book Reader; to slim a heavy one down see EPUB Compress.
