JSON ↔ String Converter

Escape JSON into a string literal for embedding in source code, or unescape a string back to formatted JSON. Supports both directions: JSON to String and String to JSON.
All processing happens locally in your browser — your data is never uploaded to any server.

Direction: Quote:
JSON → String (Escape): Converts JSON into an escaped string literal suitable for embedding in JavaScript, Python, Java, C#, or any language that supports JSON strings.
String → JSON (Unescape): Converts an escaped string back into formatted, human-readable JSON.
Tip: Use the Quote option to wrap the output in double quotes, single quotes, or no quotes. Double quotes are standard for JavaScript/JSON.
A JSON string is not JSON

A parsed JSON value is data; a JSON string literal is text that contains JSON, with every quote and newline escaped (\", \n). Escaping wraps data into source code; unescaping reverses it. Double-escaping happens when data passes through two layers — the result shows \\\" where a single \" belongs — unescape twice, or fix the pipeline.

Pick the quote style per your target language — double quotes are standard for JSON and JavaScript.
