Binary Code Converter — Text ↔ Binary TEXT → BINARY

Convert between text and binary code (base-2 representation). Enter text to get its binary representation (8 bits per character), or enter binary digits (0s and 1s) to decode back to readable text. Supports 8-bit and space-separated binary formats.

Scheme 13: Binary Code Encoding
Binary is the fundamental base-2 number system used by all digital computers. Each character is represented as a sequence of bits (0s and 1s). Standard 8-bit encoding (1 byte per character) supports all 256 extended ASCII values. 7-bit encoding covers standard ASCII (0–127). Binary encoding is the lowest-level representation — every file, image, or program ultimately reduces to binary.
Binary and two’s complement

Each binary digit is a power of two, so 8 bits cover the values 0–255. Negative numbers are stored as two’s complement — flip every bit and add one — which lets the same adder circuit handle both addition and subtraction. At a fixed width, overflowing values simply wrap: 255 + 1 becomes 0 in 8 bits.

The same bit pattern means different numbers at different widths — 11111111 is 255 unsigned but −1 as a signed 8-bit two’s complement.
