Remove Background Noise from Audio Online — Load an audio file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A and more) and reduce steady background noise such as hiss, hum, fan or room tone. The FFT-based denoiser estimates the stationary noise floor and suppresses it while keeping speech and music intact. A high-pass filter can be added to remove low rumble and mains hum. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Supported input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, M4A, AAC, WMA, AIFF and other common audio formats. Files are never uploaded to a server.
First use loads an ~30MB audio processing engine into the current browser. It is cached and reused afterwards, so please be patient.

60 dB (strong): a good balance for most recordings. It removes audible hiss and hum while keeping the voice natural.
80 Hz high-pass: cuts low rumble and AC mains hum below 80 Hz, which cleanly removes most microphone rumble and truck/subwoofer noise.
Tips: higher reduction values clean stronger noise but can make the audio sound slightly "underwater" if pushed too far. The high-pass filter is very effective on recordings with mains hum or wind. Strong settings take longer to process, and very noisy files may need the strongest setting to be audible.
Spectral denoising vs a noise gate: a noise gate is a simple switch — any moment quieter than a threshold gets muted, which also kills quiet passages of speech or music. The FFT-based denoiser here works per frequency instead: it estimates the steady noise floor (hiss, hum, fan) and suppresses it across the whole file while keeping quiet musical content. It is built for stationary noise — constant hiss and hum — not for variable sounds like traffic or crowd chatter. To see your file's noise floor plotted against its frequencies, run it through Audio Spectrum first.
