AVIF, or AV1 Image File Format, is a
relatively new image file format
developed by the Alliance for Open Media
(AOMedia). It is based on the AV1 video
codec, which is designed to offer
advanced compression efficiency compared
to previous video codecs like H.264 and
VP9. AVIF leverages the same compression
technology used in AV1 to achieve
high-quality images with smaller file
sizes.
HEIC (High Efficiency Image File Format)
is a file format used for storing images
and image sequences. It was developed by
the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)
and is based on the HEVC (High
Efficiency Video Coding) video
compression format. HEIC files typically
offer better compression than JPEG while
maintaining similar image quality,
meaning they take up less storage space
on your device.
